Yesterday (23 December 2003) we had
the chance to visit Sigacik, it had been about three
years that I had been there the last time.

The harbour is very well protected,
meanwhile pontoons have been laid out. I believe they
are by Technomarine of Canada. When completed a facility
to harbour about 400 yachts in water will have been
created.
Hard standing area has been paved,
from the size of the lift basin I assume that a 60
– 70 tons lift is planned. About 150 yachts
can be shored up on site.
About 50 yachts were present yesterday.
I recognized a few foreign flagged ones, probably
“left with the friendly restaurant nextdoor”.
About the same amount of fishing boats were present,
the larger ones at the south quay.
The harbour area is not separated
by a fence or wall.
The Adnan Menderes International Airport
is reached within one hour
A very picturesque settlement integrated
into the Ottoman fortress. Old houses tastefully restored
or in the process of restoration.
All in all Sigacik is a maritime hamlet
with a nice hinterland, attractive for the cruising
yachtsperson.
