Port
Bodrum Yalikavak, Marina and Mediterranean Lifestyle
The
Yalikavak Marina, or Port Bodrum Yalikavak - shortly PBY
- offers something more than the high quality of marina
services, which are becoming a trademark of all modern Turkish
Marinas.
PBY comes up with a new marina concept: A spicy mixture
of culture light, high society, pleasure in relaxing, shopping,
partying....are the first impressions you gain at this upcoming
"postmodern" development.
Are you interested in underwater archaeology? Would you
like to listen to a concert in an amphitheatre - at fullmoon?
Or would you like your children to learn sailing in the
predictable winds of our area? Or would you just relax on
a lawn under palm trees? These are but a few of the ongoing
entertainments at PBY.
Soon you will be able to follow online on a giant schreen
an "excavation" - 50 m below surface! A "Pocket
Museum" in the marina for local findings is under consideration.
Concerts and other performances are planned for the amphitheatre
with a capacity of 2500.
As said before, next to all these, PBY offers all high amenities
of modern marinas and more.
The marina has two main areas, the "Fisherman's Wharf",
oriented towards the cruising people to the east of the
crane basin and the "Commodore's Quay" to the
south of the marina and designed to serve the needs of larger
yachts. The "Fisherman's Wharf" is fully operational
now.
The
moorings: The moorings are protected to the west
by the "Recreation Island" and its connection
to the mainland. Submerged bufferplates under the connection
hold the south swell out. The Yalikavak bay is by it's nature
well protected towards northern directions. Harbourchop
which may come up with northerlies is reduced by a chain
of wave attenuators. All moorings are equipped with water,
electricity, telephone and cable TV connections. Water and
electricity are supplied against prepaid cards.
The wooden finishing of the concrete pontoons is very pleasent.
The
hard standing area: An adequate hard standing area
is served by a 100 tons lift and a 40 tons boatmover. Staying
on board of yachts on the hard is tolerated. Attention:
Extended stays on the hard acquire a 30% surcharge to the
marina fees.
Technical
services: Unlike other marinas in the area, PBY
is intending to supply technical services to yachts through
an in house technical department. To that effect, PBY has
a good starting point, as the well known Proteksan shipyard
in Tuzla is a sister company. The technical workshops are
well equipped and a resident subcontractor, Mr. Musa Tuncar,
deals with marine engines.
Generally, uncontracted service providers are subject to
a gate fee of € 15,00 per manday.
Officials:
At this time, clearances and other official services
are carried out through the posts in the neighbouring communities.
This will change though. Similar to Turgutreis all officials
will have one central office in the marina and Director
Meier confirms that soon Yalikavak will become a further
port of entry to Turkey.
Supplies:
The supermarket chain Migros has a branch in the
marina. Yalikavak village is in comfortable walking distance.
This pictureque former sponge divers village offers meanwhile
good shopping. Thursday is market day; delicious local produce
and fruit can be purchased nearby.
Hotel
and canteen: Who prefers to stay in a hotel rather
on board can be endulged by the beautiful boutique hotel.
Doubles € 50 - € 80, special rates apply for annual
berth holders. The marina canteen offers a good meal for
€ 2,50.
Internet:
You can use the Internet corner in the marina or
you can work through your own computer on the wireless LAN.
Both services subject to charges. Bandwith is at this time
512k.
Health:
In the marina there is a small but well equipped
infirmery. GP's, versed in English are on call on a 7/24
basis. Tel: +90(252) 311 06 00 and mobile: +90(532) 491
86 60. In Yalikavak there are attending physicians and clinics,
as well as dentists.
Yachtclub:
The budding yachtclub at PBY organizes dinghy courses
and races.
The
Shopping Arcades: For those who relax by shopping
and by strolling: In the concept neo-Mediterranean and neo-Ottoman,
the shopping arcades of PBY are well inviting. Many brands
like Mudo, Beymen, Gant, Alber Home and more have their
outlets and boutiques here. Restaurants, bars, cafes , bistros
are rounded up by an "Art Gallery" and a "Fitness
Centre".
Eating
out in the Marina:
Bistro Marine: Mediterranean Cuisine, mainly Italian.
Tel: +90(252) 385 22 83
Mozart Café: Cofee and cakes and
more. Tel: +90(252) 3854328
How
to get to Bodrum: Only about 17 km (11 miles) away
is Bodrum town. Mini buses serve day and night and over
the scenic "windmill pass". The drive in the mini
bus takes about 30 minutes one way. Several car rental companies
have their offices in Yalikavak. In the own car Bodrum is
reachable in about 20 minutes.
